AN INTERVIEW THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN:
Q: What’s the best place to read the new book?
In the mountains, on a deck, sipping on an iced tea.
Q: Will, what are your plans after the book release?
For one, I’m just glad to get it out the door, into the world, never to look at it again.
A book release is a lot like a cooked meal. Are you proud? Often, yes. Are you sick of looking at it? Yes to that, too.
Sometimes after you’re done cooking you just want the food eaten or thrown out and can’t really worry about whether people like it too much, because it’s cooked, and they’re just going to have to eat what you’re serving. I’ve been cooking this book since 2016, on and off, so it’s about time to plate it.
Q: Any other books in the hopper?
Oh heck yeah, a prequel to Here, the Bees Sting, but first, another book that’s a cross between Beastmaster, Homeward Bound, and Hatchet. But also more episodes of Tinderbox planned, I want to do some more non-fiction coming up. Topics include crime and policing in America, the nature of money, and probably a riot or two.
Q: How would you cast this book?
Glad you asked. My friend Mara K. Eton put together a great casting call for the book’s characters. Here it is:
Dot--Melissa Leo--so damn easy to picture her as that character
Zeb--Robbie Coltraine (Hagrid)
Billy--Jack Quaid or Andrew Garfield type
Kerchner--Robert Patrick
Danny--Michael Shannon
Amber--Jodi Comer
Charlie--I kept picturing a blonde Rene Russo for some reason/Rachel McAdams
Patrick--Machine Gun Kelly
Kristina--Alia Shawkat
Juniper--Blythe Danner
Lambert--Will Poulter
Derrick--John Goodman (younger days)
Abigail--I really pictured Jennifer Aniston, a middle aged beauty who is totally out of place in Shinckshinny, let alone a llama ranch
Seamus--Daeg Faerch (He played young Michael Myers in the Rob Zombie version of Halloween and he's a rather creepy looking young man; Seamus creeped me out)
